A whispy, undone updo is perfect for winter and is a popular look right now, especially when paired with strong makeup and a crimson lip colour. Model Suki Waterhouse has been spotted wearing this style to beautiful effect recently and we've got the step by step guide on how to create this cool hairstyle at home.

Elegantly undone – how to style the perfect updo

1- Dry washed hair with a towel and apply a light styling product such as Osis Glamination Pumping Shine Mousse.

This light mousse gives a push up effect to provide body in the hair and leaves you with a beautiful shine.

2- Next blow dry hair until it is dry all the way through.

3- Once hair is dry use curling irons on large sections of the hair and to create a wave in the locks. This will help hold the style in place for longer once it is styled into the updo.

4- Use a soft brush or comb and gently brush through the curls. Add some Moroccan Oil Frizz Control and run through the hair with your fingers.

5- Take a section of hair at the front of the head and secure with a pin. Next create a side ponytail at the nape of the neck and fasten the ponytail with a hairband.

6- Play with where you want to place the loose hair to create the perfect undone look.

7- Wrap the pony tail around and fasten it up using clips to fix the sections into place.

Blake Lively's Knotted Braid – a perfect winter look

Blake Lively has been known for her gorgeous hair ever since she first appeared on screen in the hit show Gossip Girl.  Since then her signature blonde hair with gentle waves has seen a few changeups, and last week we witnessed yet another cool twist on her look: A sexy messy knotted braid.

This is a firm favourite look of ours and the knotted braid hairstyle is great for winter and the Christmas festivities.

The key to a perfect knotted braid

To achieve the perfect knotted braid look give your hair more volume. You can do this by working with a dry shampoo that adds texture such as Alterna Caviar Dry Shampoo. Simply work the shampoo through your hair with your fingers.

To capture the loose knots seen in Blake's style add in a volumizing powder like D:fi Volume Powder.

It's matte finish gives fine hair an anti gravity lift giving you a a messier, more undone finish.
